The district of Euskirchen, administered in the eponymous city of Euskirchen, is located at the south-western tip of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. There are 11 cities and municipalities in the very large administrative district, many of them in the catchment area or within the Eifel natural region. The Eifel is one of the most relevant tourist regions in Germany, partly because of the nature reserves and lakes lying there. In addition to tourism, agriculture and the local economy play the most important role in the district of Euskirchen. This also shapes the landscape and architectural image of the entire region.
