Dachau, a city in a district of the same name, is located in the state of Bavaria and at the river "Amper". Already in the 1st century people settled in the region, from which a steadily growing city developed in the Middle Ages, which shows up to today in the preserved, medieval old town. Dachau became sadly world famous during World War II, as one of the Nazi government's largest concentration camps was located in the city. This is still remembered today by a memorial in the partially preserved camp. Dachau's economic relevance nowadays mainly lies in its shopping centers and supermarkets.
