The city of Dormagen is located in the state of North Rhine-Westfallen between the two major cities of Cologne and Dusseldorf on the banks of the Rhine. With traces of first settlements dating back to the Stone Age, the city with its 12 districts gained in importance both in Roman times and in the Middle Ages, today it is mainly industrial and characterized by local retail. Here, above all, the chemical and supplying industry is dominant, supplying large industries in the surrounding metropolitan areas. On the banks of the Rhine there are many green areas and recreation areas in Dormagen.
