The city of Regensburg - seat of government of the district of Upper Palatinate - is the fourth largest city in the state of Bavaria. With three universities, it is particularly relevant in the education sector, as a bishop's seat also plays an important role in the Catholic faith. Even before the 12th century, Regensburg was among other Roman military city and was early to the episcopal see. Therefore, there are many historical buildings and museums in the city. Favored by the central location Regensburg developed in the course of history from the important trading post to one of the largest location of the processing industry in Bavaria. The historic city of Regensburg is known internationally and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which also provides lively tourism in and around Regensburg.
