Essen is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia. Formerly known mainly for coal mining and steel production, Essen provides a broad range of industries nowadays. Some international companies have their headquarters here, including ThyssenKrupp. Essen is the greenest city in Germany and therefore a popular place to live. The city offers its residents a wide cultural offer with a Philharmonic and many museums around the mining industry. Some very prestigious modern art collections can be found here.
