Rostock, one of the largest cities in Germany, is known in addition to its immediate location to Warnow and the Baltic Sea for its academic institutions and a vibrant cultural scene. The University of Rostock is the oldest university in the Baltic region and beside the medical faculty it ensures work for numerous people. The Rostock Heath ofers a large forest area with various options for recreation. There are also numerous cultural highlights, such as the Hanse Sail in August or Rostock Culture Week in October, which are starting points for locals and tourists. Simultaneously Rostock is an important economic center, especially in the maritime industry. This covers the areas of maritime transport, shipyards with suppliers and the ports, with their infrastructure. Beside that Rostock is also an established center for air- and space industry.
