Population: approximately 246.000
Area: 1.653,64 km²

The county of Saxon Switzerland / Eastern Ore Mountains reaches from the Saxon capital of Dresden to the north Bohemian border region of the Czech Republic. Geographically, the district contains the Saxon, Ore Mountains and Lausitzer mountain area as well as numerous dams, like Malter and Klingenberg. Wide forest areas also characterize the county's landscape. The county was founded in 2008 due to an administrative reform. Numerous large district towns offer cultural and touristic highlights, like a public mine in Altenberg, the GDR Museum in Pirna and the historic old town with its market square and late Gothic town hall in Dippoldiswalde. The region had been economically dominated by the mining industry whereas the main focus nowadays centers on tourism. Interesting sights to visit are the narrow-gauge railway or the Glashuette watch museum.
