Only five kilometers from the Czech border is the state-approved health resort Altenberg which is especially known for its historical past. Miners began with the mining of tin in the 12th century and since than Altenberg was known as the mountain town in eastern Ore Mountains. Today you can still observe the cultural heritage in museums or on a tour of the visitor mine. Altenberg is also an international winter sports center with a bobsleigh run, numerous ski lifts and even a summer toboggan run.
