Heidenau is the third largest city of the county with about 16.500 residents. The city offers its residents and visitors a variety of leisure offers, such as parks and sports facilities. Major attractions include the baroque garden laid out by Augustus the Strong once. In the GDR, the city was an important economic center and today here are various industries, such as paper and machine factories.
