Görlitz county is the third-largest county of the ten new counties in Saxony and is the most eastern county of Germany. The county is home to 22 conservation areas which offer a great variety. From the "Koenigshainer mountains" to the "Niederspreer Teichgebiet" you'll find several nature trails for exploration. A historic interesting site is the "Zittauer Fastentuch" from 1472 or the typical "Oberlausitzer Umgebindehaeuser", specific house types with different designs. Goerlitz county offers several cultural events like the street theatre festival "Via Thea" in Goerlitz, the "Sorbian Easter Ride" as well as numerous museums and landscape parks. The county's economic strength is based on trade relations with Poland and the Czech Republic with its main focus on metal construction, the glass industry and renewable energies. Agriculture also plays an important economic role.
