The county of Meissen with the river Elbe running through, is located in the mid-northern part of the federal state of Saxony. The district capital of Meissen is well-know for its porcelain manufacture. When founded back in 1710, it was the first Eueopean manufactur and is still renowned all over the world nowadays. The landscape is mainly influenced by the cultivation of fruits and vegetables as well as vineyards. Several well-known wineries are located at the northern slopes of the river Elbe. The county offers several tourist sights like the Moritzburg castle, which is known from movies and TV. Wackerbarth castle builds the centre of the most-eastern wine region in Germany.
