Alsdorf is one of the largest cities within the StaedteRegion of Aachen and is mainly known for its mining history. Many places and districts of Alsdorf emerged as pure accommodation for miners or had been relocated several times in order to enable coal mining. After the coal mining of the "Grube Anna" was discontinued in the entire region in 1993, Alsdorf established itself as an industrial and logistics location in addition to the remaining agriculture, which is partly due to the good infrastructure and proximity to the Netherlands and Belgium.
