Baesweiler is a merger of seven villages in total. Similar to the Alsdorf commune, Baesweiler had been characterized for a long time mainly by the mining industry and agriculture. However, with its decline respectively end in the 1970s, its population has increased since Baesweiler granted wide areas into development areas with suburban character.
