Roetgen is a municipality within the StaedteRegion Aachen with a direct border to Belgium. Situated in the hills of the Eifel, Roetgen is well-known for its beautiful landscape with meadows, fields, forests and several lakes, including a dam which supplies drinking water to large parts of the city districts. Roetgen still retains a lot of its original, village character since it is only connected by highways and formerly by regional railways. However, due to the proximity to Belgium and the nature reserve of Haute Venn, Roetgen has also increasingly developed in the area of tourism.
