Winsen (Luhe) has a population of 35,000 and is the county town of Harburg county. In addition to the core city, 13 districts are part of the urban area. The three rivers Luhe, Ilmenau and Elbe flow through the city. In the local area are the Lüneburg Heath, the old salt city of Lueneburg and the metropolis of Hamburg. At present about 500 refugees live in Winsen (Luhe), most of them in the three community accommodations in the city area. Every Saturday, Winsen citizens meet with refugees at the International Café to get to know each other, learn German, and for joint activities. Winsen also offers a wide range of (sports) clubs as well as many cultural and public festivals and offers.
