The municipality of Hanstedt is located on the edge of the nature reserve "Natural Park Lueneburger Heide" and has six member municipalities - Asendorf, Brackel, Egestorf, Hanstedt, Marxen and Undeloh. Hanstedt is the main center and offers numerous shopping facilities - from drugstore articles to groceries and clothing to household goods and sports supplies as well as a library. Also various house and specialist doctors as well as pharmacies are located in Hanstedt, like in other member communities. Due to the municipalities' size, various bus lines connect the villages. There is also a call-pickup taxi and the Heide-Shuttle which runs from July 15 to October 15. From May to September the public pools in Egestorf ("Aquadies") and in Hanstedt ("Waldbad")are open and offer further recreation possibilities. A wide range of clubs are also involved in different areas of interest, so that there is something for everyone.
