The municipality of Tostedt was established in the context of the Lower Saxon territorial and municipal reform. On 1 March 1971, the municipality was the first to be established in the district of Harburg and thus wrote county history. The municipality consists of the nine municipalities members Dohren, Handeloh, Heidenau, Kachenstorf, Koenigsmoor, Otter, Tostedt, Welle and Wistedt. It is an attractive residential and business center, a few kilometers southwest of Hamburg. The municipality has all school forms up to highschool. The Rudolf Steiner School in Kakenstorf complements the range with Waldorf education. The Elias school branch of the Rudolf-Steiner-Schule Nordheide in Wistedt also supports the area of learning as well as the emotional, social, mental, motor and physical development. The library of the municipality completes the educational offer creatively. Several children's day care centers and nurseries take care of the needs of the youngest.
