The district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge in the state of Bavaria is - as the name says - in the mountainous region of the Fichtesgebirge in the eastern center of Germany. The district is located directly on the border with the Czech Republic. The 29 towns, municipalities under administrative districts are widely scattered in the large and sparsely populated district and are usually only connected by roads. The river Eger crosses the district from west to east, but is of little importance in terms of traffic. The district is characterized by rather small villages and agricultural use. In some areas of the Fichtelgebirge there is winter sports tourism.
